This gesture, sometimes referred to as "the finger", was originally a greeting among aboriginal Canadians and Americans who, as with everyone else on Earth apparently, were waiting for socially and otherwise illiterate "white Gods" (with guns, disease and severe psychological problems) to arrive on The New World -whatever that means?
As you know my tribe (race) i.e. 'white?' folks uses oceans, rivers and lakes as toilets for a while as villages become towns then cities, based on ancient plans by psychotics, by their own definitions, for so called civilizations where an always increasingly comic 'elite?' of adult aged children always, eventually, play house and play family trying to impress 'the poor' required as audiences for how 12 year olds would live, they say, if my class, grade 7 honors social studies, was rich and famous, i.e. wealthy and obviously emotionally disturbed.
The (mighty) Fraser River http://science.gc.ca/default.asp?Lang=En&n=0B3193FB-1 has been used as a toilet for the past 100 years or so by exponentially increasing populations of rejects from 'Great?' Britain, Europe and Asia and, even today, receives untreated sewage and industrial waste from about 1 million people living in Vancouver BC, most of whom are trying to re-create the social sewers, political pollution and economic ugliness that got rid of them.

Aristotle's depiction of the change problem and the definition of substance is clear. If an object changes, is it the same or different? In either case how can there be a change from one to the other? The answer is that the substance "is saved", but acquires or loses different qualities (πάθη, the things you "experience").
A deeper dip into the waters of the theory of matter and form is properly reserved to other articles. The question for this article is, how far does Aristotle reflect Thales? He was probably not far off, and Thales was probably an incipient matter-and-formist.
The essentially non-philosophic Diogenes Laertius states that Thales taught as follows:
- "Water constituted (ὑπεστήσατο, 'stood under') the principle of all things."[18]
Heraclitus Homericus[19] states that Thales drew his conclusion from seeing moist substance turn into air, slime and earth. It seems clear that Thales viewed the Earth as solidifying from the water on which it floated and which surrounded Ocean.
Beliefs in divinity
Thales applied his method to objects that changed to become other objects, such as water into earth (he thought). But what about the changing itself? Thales did address the topic, approaching it through magnets and amber, which, when electrified by rubbing, attracts also. A concern for magnetism and electrification never left science, being a major part of it today.
How was the power to move other things without the mover’s changing to be explained? Thales saw a commonality with the powers of living things to act. The magnet and the amber must be alive, and if that were so, there could be no difference between the living and the dead. When asked why he didn’t die if there was no difference, he replied “because there is no difference.”
Aristotle defined the soul as the principle of life, that which imbues the matter and makes it live, giving it the animation, or power to act. The idea did not originate with him, as the Greeks in general believed in the distinction between mind and matter, which was ultimately to lead to a distinction not only between body and soul but also between matter and energy.
If things were alive, they must have souls. This belief was no innovation, as the ordinary ancient populations of the Mediterranean did believe that natural actions were caused by divinities. Accordingly, the sources say that Thales believed all things possessed divinities. In their zeal to make him the first in everything they said he was the first to hold the belief, which even they must have known was not true.
However, Thales was looking for something more general, a universal substance of mind. That also was in the polytheism of the times. Zeus was the very personification of supreme mind, dominating all the subordinate manifestations. From Thales on, however, philosophers had a tendency to depersonify or objectify mind, as though it were the substance of animation per se and not actually a god like the other gods. The end result was a total removal of mind from substance, opening the door to a non-divine principle of action. This tradition persisted until Einstein, whose cosmology is quite a different one and does not distinguish between matter and energy.
Classical thought, however, had proceeded only a little way along that path. Instead of referring to the person, Zeus, they talked about the great mind:
- "Thales", says Cicero,[20] "assures that water is the principle of all things; and that God is that Mind which shaped and created all things from water."
The universal mind appears as a Roman belief in Virgil as well:

The professions, i.e. sane humans professing to specialized knowledge associated with improving the quality of human life in the real world are, in ascending order of historical advent:
1. history's and today's sane teachers with iQs over 100 (average/normal) usually employed by 'sane governments' to teach children how to become "sane adults", including by example, helping to encourage 'sane citizenship" requiring "good character" and "idealistic behaviors" among all public (funded) employees, especially those in public (funded) office today.
2. history's and today's sane physicians, medical doctors, nurses and others with superior intellects usually trained at public expense then employed by 'sane governments' to be human resources for sick and injured, mentally and physically ill people and, generally, profess (not know exactly?) how to apply the past 5000 years or so of medical theory to help their fellow humans be more like them?
3. history's and today's honest jurists who are ruled by laws legislated by 'sane governments' elected into public (funded) office by 'sane people' with a proper public (funded) grade 7 or better academic education including some simple reason and elementary logic required to pass on to grade 8 or graduate school in BC and The USA.

Before I went happily crazy recently, after 35 years of "marriage with children", I was educated, informally and formally, by "Sane Americans" who all still live and work in Southern California or are dead.
ARE THE USA'S HILLBILLIES THE WORLD'S FUNNIEST SOCIAL MORONS?
My education included a bus excursion from UCLA with graduate students, to whom I was a slave, i.e. a TA, 45 years ago into the exotic and weird lifestyles of emotionally disturbed adult aged children in Beverly Hills who're, even today, trying to impress "the poor" in Los Angeles required as audiences for how 12 year olds would live, they say, if my class, grade 7 honors social studies in Vancouver BC, were all, say, genius movie and TV stars?
As you know, UCLA, and The University of California in general, defines all that's possibly potentially civil and good in California, where the human population is about the same as Canada's, 40 million, but the climate is more like that of The Mediterranean basin? Homelessness, by Canadian standards, is meaningless, no-one freezes to death, and, in my experience, Americans, who all live in The USA, know exactly what I'm talking about here*.
The bus excursion from UCLA to Beverly Hills was led by a woman professor with a Ph D in Political Science (whatever that means she used to say) who began every lecture with "it's likely that you are all smarter than I are, but I get paid to be here and you don't".
My next blog will address "Global San Diego", my favorite place, especially during Canada's winter, and how to make Southern BC more like Southern California as defined by The University of British Columbia and BC's brightest and best highest iQ genius and very well paid world visionaries employed by The BC Government through intricate re-association with The Canadian Federal (Feudal?) Government tom we must hope, advise those in public (funded) office in Canada to be very careful about how they refer to the humans (Canadians) LEST THEY FORGET who their employers are?

This will be my last extemporaneous early am cathartic drivel into cyberspace trying to figure out how key words and key phrases generate what ads aimed at which 'target audiences' by what salespeople fishing for suckers to buy junk no-one needs FROM CHINA??? creating a $60B US trade deficit and now a coming economic depression orchestrated by international banks with roots in mercantile empires.
